Week 2 - sketchbook

To start getting ideas down I messily sketched out 4 ideas, after deciding which idea could work out I moved onto making a small comic page in my sketchbook. I noticed my pages felt like it had far too much space unused so I scribbled down what I could do to shorten it.

Thubmnails:

I was told to create a thumbnail and then start branching out of the idea into different variations of the original until i got to one i was content with. I found this much more esier than to come up with a lot of different ideas and overall just helped me keep moving forward.
Week 3 - mock up

From what I had in my sketchbook I decided to create a mock up of what I was going to do and what I would change. I was still pretty unsure on text as it makes me slightly uncomfortable having to do a project based around myself and what i might think or say. It wasn't about the specific idea i chose but overall, so i have left text till last and see what could fit well, i already had specific ideas of what i was going to write.

Week 4 - Digital Sketch and Lineart

Taking my mock up I went in it digitally and sketched out some areas i was going to chnage again or just move overall as i felt there was too much space still left. I finally got to the point i felt fine with what i had and then moved onto finishing up my comic. The only problem i had was text and figuring out what font would fit best but I thought to finish my illustrations first to know what font would work well alongside my work.
Characters:

Rabbit: I decided to sumbolise myself as a rabbit as the transition from being at uni online to in person was difficult and scary. So I am represented as a rabbit to show how big the world seemed and how timid i felt leaving my house. The rabbit symbolises sensitivity, gentleness, fertility, haste, new beginings, the moon and good luck. To me this feels like a "new begining" from being online to in studio and how I wanted things to go well.

Fox(s): I decided to create the other students as foxes as they were unkown and I felt scared to meet everyone for the first time in person, I was overall worried about meeting new people when it seemed like everyone had already gotten to know one another making it feel more intimidating to get to know them. I then tired to show Ayeisha looking slightly more friendlier in my desgn as I had already known her and felt more comfortable when she's around, she also really loves foxes and with her being ginger it fit quite well. The fox symbolises cleverness, independence, playfullness, mischievousness, beauty, protection and good luck.

Bear: This is the biggest animal of all three, the tutors symbolise as a bear to show the power they have, they set projects and dictate gradesv so therefore the size of the bear in real life relates to the power that tutors have over their students sucess. In Native American culture, animal totems hold the protective powers of the animal they represent. Thus, the bear totem is a helpful symbol for manifesting more courage ,strenght, and protection in your life.

With my final pages I am very happy with how everything turned out, at firs I didn't think i would be able to fully finish it but I remebered that some backgrounds didn't need details and I could still keep things simple. To get my images to be a bit more realistic I got my sister to help me get refrence photos which was also hard but helped a lot in terms of body language. I also took from the colour composition project not to colour things as they seem which has made my drawings very blue heavy with hints of purples and pinks, however i did keep most colours accurate.
